The short answer
BayPro Heating & Cooling repairs furnaces, AC units, heat pumps and ductwork in Fremont, Newark, Union City and Sunol. We drive up from San Jose, about 22 miles, and plan each visit around the home's equipment and location.
Our shop sits in San Jose, and the southern end of Alameda County starts roughly 22 miles up the road from it. Fremont, Newark, Union City and Sunol share a county line with us but not a single climate, and that difference shapes how we diagnose a failing system in each one. This page explains what we handle in those four communities, how a service call is set up from our side, and which local conditions tend to wear on furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps up there.
Four towns, two kinds of weather
Newark and Union City sit low and close to the shoreline, so marine air keeps most summer afternoons moderate. Equipment there usually fails from steady use and age rather than from heat stress. Moisture is the bigger enemy: damp winter months can corrode outdoor coils, rust cabinet screws and make condensate lines grow slime that eventually backs up.
Fremont stretches from the flats near the water up toward the hills, so a single city can show both patterns. Sunol, tucked inland in its own small valley, sees warmer summer days and cooler nights than the bayside neighborhoods. Compressors and condenser fan motors work harder out there, and a system that limps along in Newark may simply quit in Sunol during a hot week.
Repairs we take on north of the county line
Most calls from this area fall into a short list of problems. We bring parts and test gear for the common failures so a second trip is the exception rather than the plan.
- Gas furnaces that short-cycle, lock out or blow cool air
- Central air conditioners with weak airflow, ice on the lines or a dead outdoor unit
- Heat pumps stuck in one mode or struggling to defrost
- Ductless mini-splits showing error codes or dripping indoors
- Leaky, crushed or disconnected ducts in attics and crawlspaces
- Thermostats that lose settings or fail to call for heat
Planning a trip from San Jose
Because we travel north to reach you, we ask a few questions before scheduling: the brand and rough age of the equipment, where it is installed, and what changed when the trouble started. That lets the technician load the truck for your specific system. If you can send a photo of the unit's data plate, it helps even more.
On site, we test before touching anything, explain what we found in plain terms and give you a written description of the repair options so you can decide without pressure.
Replacing a furnace in Alameda County
Bay Area Air District rules do not force anyone to swap out working equipment. They only come into play when a furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. For furnaces made from 2029 onward, Rule 9-4 sets a zero-NOx emission standard, which in practice steers replacements toward heat pumps. If your furnace is near the end of its life, we can walk through both paths and point you to BayREN and your clean energy provider to confirm whatever incentives are current.
